David Bryson

David Bryson as with Shirli Kirschner, is one of our preferred mediators and specilaist trainers. David is extremely well regarded in our specialist area of work and is an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) consultant who has over 20 years of experience as a workplace facilitator, mediator, conciliator, trainer, dispute resolution adviser and conflict coach. He is an independent consultant to the National Electricity Market Management Company (NEMMCO) in relation to their dispute management system (Circuit Breaker Facilitator) and holds a Ministerial appointment as a Conciliator with the Victorian Accident Compensation Conciliation Service.

David’s academic background includes postgraduate degrees from Oxford University (Social Anthropology), and RMIT University, Melbourne (Business Studies-Organisational Change). From 1998 to 2001 he was an Associate Professor (Graduate Business School) at La Trobe University in Melbourne.

David was Assistant Commissioner with the Equal Opportunity Commission in Melbourne from 1988 to 1992, and Manager (Quality & Services) with the WorkCover Conciliation Service from 1993 to 2000. He was a founding member of the Mediation Association of Victoria and its President from 1988 to 1990. In 1986 he established the state-wide community-based mediation scheme in Victoria.

He has participated in committees, working parties and conferences that have led to significant mediation initiatives in Australia. From 1996-2000 David was a member of the Federal Attorney-General’s National Alternative Dispute Resolution Advisory Council (NADRAC), where he convened the Council’s committee that produced a seminal report on ADR standards in Australia. He has written widely on mediation practice and theory and is an editorial consultant to the Australian Dispute Resolution Journal and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Bulletin. He is Principal Examiner for the Law Institute of Victoria’s Mediation Specialisation Committee.

David provides tailored training workshops in conflict management, mediation and facilitation skills and conducts conflict resolution coaching for managers and business groups. He has assisted communities, organisations and business teams to identify key issues facing them and make decisions on future actions.
